Tide Fest was conceived as a mechanism to create benefit within the communities that encompass the Municipality of East Hants. Prior to 2017 the Municipality several successful events that draw communities together. However, for the most part there had never been a formal homecoming or major event that has the potential to galvanize the communities that encompass our area. Tide Fest is a celebration bringing residents together, inclusive to all ages, with activities that are attractive for a variety of tastes. The event is a celebration of our local communities and a showcase of everything they have to offer.
In addition to having a cultural and entertainment component for residents within the Municipality and abroad, Tide Fest has the ability to harness economic, tourism, and social opportunities.
Economic: Tide Fest has the ability to create economic benefit in a variety of different ways. Tide Fest seeks to draw participants from inside and outside the Municipality. In 2017, of the 3,500 participants who came to the event, over 500 were from outside East Hants. Tide Fest hopes to grow these numbers and increase the economic benefit to East Hants and Nova Scotia as a whole.
The influx of visitors creates benefits for local business, including those operating in the service industry, notably tourism, restaurants, and accommodation are likely to benefit. However, Tide Fest itself offers business opportunities for vendors and businesses which ensures Tide Fest’ is a successful event. In 2017, this amounted to over $100,000 in local spending.
Tourism: All of our communities stand to benefit from increased exposure as a result of a festival initiative. Tide Fest in itself is a tourism draw, and our proximity to Halifax, and Truro allows for the perfect geography to capture many potential visitors. We believe Tide Fest can serve a showcase for those who want to enjoy our local tourism destinations.
Social: The social impacts stemming from Tide Fest are significant. Having a summer festival that brings together the community has an immeasurable benefit. Even more so the majority of the Tide Fest concept is delivered by local non-profit and volunteer organizations. Meaning all proceeds from the event are reinvested back into the community, by organizations that contribute to the area on a year-round basis.
